Gila Marks

"My creations are something complete, created from fragments… a collection of bits and parts, which together create a new and exciting piece, standing on its own… something born out of the imperfect."

Gila Marks is a mosaic artist who works at her home in Moshav Avichail in the Hefer Valley. Her mosaic art pieces are wide-ranging: pictures, mandalas, planters, balls, and more. Her work presents shapes and colors that were part of other objects, and which have been reassembled as a mosaic in a way that creates joyful harmony and beauty.

From an early age, art and creation were a significant part of Gila's life. As a child and youngster, she enjoyed creating art from anything available: screwdrivers, nails, buttons and various materials like clay, paper and other materials. She chose education as her first calling. She studied special education and worked for many years with at-risk youth and students with learning disabilities. Working with children and youth with special needs became hugely inspiring and is prominently present in her mosaic works.
